On the Way...

"The view from the back of an auto-rickshaw darting about on the hot, dusty and colourful streets of Alapphuza, Kerala. This friendly wide-eyed gent stopped by his house, and we met his family and he proudly showed us his strange collection of well cared-for dogs of many breeds". Taken by Rich

Great Picture Rich, but to get the full impact of this shot you need to click on the picture and see it full screen. Then the feeling of the bustle and rush in the street become clear. Michael

Thanks Michael; you're right. Believe it or not though, this was one of the quieter roads... Although the ride was just as beautifully bone-rattling...

Rich, you lead an interesting life. Riding in an auto-rickshaw is an experience I have not yet enjoyed ... Maybe a wide eyed driver is a good thing given the zipping around which you describe ... I wonder what the stars are for? Just decorations or do they have a meaning.

This is a very nicely captured shot. I really can understand the feel of the view from inside the auto-rickshaw, in which we have to travel almost daily. They are quite an experience by itself especially on jammed roads.

Hi Denton. I hope you get the chance to ride an auto-rickshaw before long; there is nothing quite like it. You are so close to the ground and to the action... All auto-rickshaws have different decorations. Devotional images, incense sticks wafting their aromas, jangling objects and more... I'm sure these stars have meaning to the driver.

Thanks Flyingstars, once you've been a passenger in one an image like this can take you straight back. They really are 'quite an experience'...

Greaty photo! I was in India about 6 months ago and I was intrigued by the rickshaws, both motorized and bicycle.
