"The Old Lady, as I like to call Notre Dame Cathedral. Just a little reminder, this perfect example of Middle ages French art was actually built between 1163 and 1351 on the Isle of la Cité, in the very heart of Paris. I'll admit that out of all the monuments of Paris, I have a particular affection for la Vieille Dame!". Taken by Fredcan

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light...

"If I would be in his place I wouldn’t have the strength to smile. Coal is still very much used in Chinese houses for cooking and heating and it has to be carried and distributed door-to-door by people like this man. I simply dismissed my personal worries when I saw his smile amid this burden". Inner Mongolia. Taken by Quimdoporto

"Usually when a hamster's ears are down it means they're not very happy. But this afternoon Mary had just woken up and was just generally mellow. Taken at home in the South of England. Mary lives in a cosy cage and is indulged regularly. She is very affectionate and loves to snuggle between a neck and shoulder". Taken by Ros

"For the most part the buses in Hyderabad are really crowded. Sometimes you can go someplace and the bus might have a place to sit or stand. In this photo my friend, Chandu, is looking for the place were we need to get off and I thought that with the people in the background and Chandu waiting in the middle gave the mood of the bus ride". "Today was a very dusty day so I didn't think there was much chance of doing any photography. But at around 6pm the evening light, combined with the dust, created a really soft, muted feeling to everything. I was pleased with the result of this one. It's a bit more realistic than some of my other attempts at HDR". Dubai. Taken by James

"The end of September, the first month of fall... My wife and I were at our vacation home in Mariestad – in mid/south Sweden – approximately at the same latitude as Oslo and with mostly the same climate, fauna and flora. There I went photo hunting to show you and try to describe: The clear, blue sky – the crisp fresh wind, and of course the golden beauty in the leaves of the trees. It was 15C and at this same beach we were swimming and tanning in 30C less than 3 months ago". Taken by RennyBA
