"Blenheim Palace was built at the start of the 18th century by John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough; paid for by the nation as a gift to him in return for his brilliant military triumph against the French. His descendent, Winston Churchill was born here in 1874 in a small room just behind this grand entrance. During December the palace is beautifully decorated for Christmas in the 'grand' style. "I went down to the field on a sunny winter morning; before I even had the camera out one of the eagle mates came flying in from over the Youth Hostel! Winter Beach

"In early December by the English Channel at Milford-on-Sea, Hampshire and the day is bright and blue but with a fierce cold wind. After an early morning stroll I find this parade of beach huts locked up for the winter season, standing sentinel like facing the sea adjacent to an old sanitorium which has been converted to most desirable waterside apartments. The view from these seaside rooms must be spectacular with the Isle of Wight and its Needles only a few miles away across the water". Taken by Michael

The Wall

"The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC, also known as the Wall, contains the names of more than 58,000 servicemen and -women who died or were classified as missing in action during the 20 years of American involvement in the Vietnam War. More than 25,000 items have been left at the Wall by family, friends, fellow veterans, and complete strangers. They're collected daily, and some are displayed at the Smithsonian Museum". "Whilst out walking through the Oxfordshire countryside I came across this 'home from home' which appeared to be currently unoccupied. No utilities except for ample fresh air and natural lighting, but a wonderful view across the open country down towards the River Thames. And they say property prices are falling!". Taken by Elliott

"Angkor Wat, July 2004, Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Bayon: A massive temple complex built by Jayavarman VII between 1181 and 1220. It features 3,936 feet of superb bas-relief carving and mysterious Buddha faces carved on the towers of the third level. Breathtaking". Taken by Hannuna

Weeping Rock

"Zion National Park, Utah, USA has many spectacular spots, but this one is almost unique. From a distance it looks like a simple waterfall, but you can step behind the falling water into a shallow cave and the view out is partly hidden behind a curtain of lightly falling water. "Cagayan De Oro, Philippines. Sunken cemetery where a beautiful stone cross standing above the sea water. This cemetery sunk after the eruption of Mt. Hibok-Hibok in 1921". Taken by Seth

Oxford from on High

"I was lucky enough to be given a Balloon trip for a present. We passed over the centre of Oxford and were privileged to get a really special view of this historic city. This picture shows the mid-eighteenth century Radcliffe Camera, now used as a reading room for the Bodleian Library. In the foreground to the right is the University Church. The Camera sits in the centre of Radcliffe Square with Colleges of the University to the left and right. A Red bus going down the High is just visible". Taken by Michael
