Disturbed

"As the ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano continues to spew all over Europe we thought it would be nice to try and capture some of this in our sunset shots. But for this night it just wasn't to be, no clouds over the Tallesee...". Germany. Taken by Martin..D

The Blue Planet

"I got this animal globe for my niece a while ago to improve her geographical knowledge and learn about animals across the planet. It's a good source of info and great fun.

In this image I lit part of the globe with a blue LED light in an effort to show the freezing weather we have been having across Europe and many other parts of the world". Taken by Sogs Karim

Linear B

"The museum of art in the former capital of Germany, Bonn. I like the clear lines and areas, underlined by the structure of the concrete roof". Taken by Julia

The Cold, Cold Waters

"In this picture you can see the west coast of Senja where the island meets the Norwegian Sea and next piece of land is Greenland. The waves can be massive if the wind come from the right (wrong?) direction. The mountain on the left is called 'Teisten'". Taken by Thomas

Look to the Sky for the Warning

"I spotted this view while in the village of Tuscania, near Rome. The ominous clouds made an impressive contrast with the sunlit ruins below". Taken by Sil

Akvavit Racing

"Grangärde, Bysjön: On Christmas day my friend and I went for a walk on the lake not far from our homes in the Central part of Sweden. The day was silent and a low cloud hung over the centre of the lake. Already the track has been prepared for the Lake Race which will take place in the first days of February. The track is marked out by planting branches in the ice as it freezes. Hundreds of us will race on skis around the ten kilometre track. There will be a lot of akvavit drinking too to keep us going". Roll Call

"A detail of the American Cemetery in Margraten, The Netherlands. Most of these men died at the end of the second world war in Europe. Some of them just one day before the end... eighteen years old". Taken by Ben Swillens

Allegory and Effects of Good and Bad Government

"The Palazzo Pubblico overlooks the Piazza del Campo, where the Siennese Palio, or horse-race is run twice a year. Between times it is the place to eat or take a drink watching the passing locals and tourists enjoy the air". Taken by Elliott

Shady Lanes

If Italy becomes one's compulsion, one could be compelled to travel at the pace set by the locals, (gli abitanti locali). They know how to set the pace of life. Here in Cortona once more, an early morning stroll will reveal a little of the culture we have all forgotten. Everything one sees has a smell. Smells rest in the brain and remind us of past pleasures. Cypress, horses, morning air, Italian pretty girls, endless memories.......Italia...". Taken and smelled by M. Benaut

For Whom the Bell Tolls...

"Big Ben in London when we visited in the summer of 2005. No matter how many times you click pictures of the Big Ben... it looks better each time. The day was overcast, the weather very British, typically sunny and showery... and the Big Ben... Majestic!". Taken by Deeba/Passionate Baker

Venice-The Art of Dreaming

"There is no city on earth quite like it. To wander the streets and round every corner find a breathtaking view is an everyday occurrence here. Early one evening just as the sun was setting I walked across the Rialto Bridge and looking down the Grand Canal was bustling with water traffic. Truly this is the 'Serenissima' - the most serene city in the world". Taken by Mike
