Castell Dinas Bran

The most reliable sources state that Gruffydd Maelor II, son of Madog ap Gruffydd Maelor I, began the castle in the late 1260's. The elder Madog founded nearby Valle Crucis Abbey, where both men were buried. Some references offer an earlier date for the castle, placing it in the 1230's, when Madog would have been alive and, therefore, its builder. Regardless of whom actually erected the buildings that now survive in ruin, they were part of the last building effort at Dinas Bran. Incredibly, assuming the later date to be most accurate, the Welsh princes only occupied the site for two decades. During those final two decades, the castle on the hilltop became a prized possession of the princes of Powys Fadog. Dinas Bran's power did not go unnoticed by English forces. In 1277, during Edward I's initial foray into Wales, the Earl of Lincoln, Henry de Lacy, besieged the castle. The Welsh lord of Dinas Bran was forced to submit to the invading army, which promptly set the site afire, completely destroying it. Taken in Wales by tedesco57

Snowdon

One of my favorite locations in the UK "North Wales" and only 80 Miles from my home Village. Snowdonia is the highest mountain in Wales 3,560 ft (1,085 m) and the second highest in the UK. On this day I was accompanied by my family, our goal for the day was to head up to the top via train but unfortunately the train service was fully booked for the next 4 days, maybe next time. Instead we decided to walk part of the Miners Track up untill lake Llyn Llydaw our final destination - beyond this point carrying a 3 year can be a bit of a challenge.

From the lower end of Llyn Llydaw I was able to capture some amazing shot's of both the lake and the peak of Snowdon. For this particular shot I waited for the sun to disappear and partly reappear from behind a cloud just enough to remove direct sun light from snowdon peak "see note" and light up the smaller mountain to the right of the frame. Norwegian Church

"This looks like a Norwegian Church, but what is that writing on the side...? That's not Norwegian, it's Welsh! Why - because in 1869 it was built in Bute Docks in Cardiff by Scandinavian seamen (having been brought piecemeal from Norway by sea) as a place of worship for the seamen and their families. In 1987 it was moved, again piecemeal, and reconstructed on its present site in Cardiff Bay where it now houses a Norwegian Style cafe and Art Centre". Taken by Elliott

Trigger Happy?

"This road sign comes as a bit of a surprise when you come across it in a sleepy harbour in the extremes of Pembrokeshire. Even more so when there is a Cannon Shot ringing out moments later. Then a shout as the Sailing Boat race starts with a rush. Lucky it was written
in two languages, Welsh and English!". Taken by Mike

In Cardiff I Saw Horses...

"A spinning Carousel with typical hurdy gurdy type music and bright lights reminded me of years gone by. Then I went on board and remembered why I never used to climb on these things as a youngster". Taken by Michael
