"The view from the back of an auto-rickshaw darting about on the hot, dusty and colourful streets of Alapphuza, Kerala. This friendly wide-eyed gent stopped by his house, and we met his family and he proudly showed us his strange collection of well cared-for dogs of many breeds". Taken by Rich

Ghost Festival

This photo was taken in Luodong City, Taiwan. September the 10th marked the closing of Ghost Month, Lunar Month 7, when all of the spirits, freed from their otherworlds to enjoy incense, praise, and sacrifice, are wished a good journey back home. The offerings and festivities are used to not offend a potentially unwelcome guest; noone wants these 'good friends', as they call them, hanging around past their welcome. This shot is of some lanterns and lights at a Night Market Temple in Luodong on the first evening of Ghost Month. Taken by Dale

In 1982 work started on demolishing the former shipyards and workshops of Norway’s largest shipbuilding yard. The architects, had the dream of creating Urban Qualities, the atmosphere of a living city, with the intention of providing identity, intimacy, drama, monumentality, friendliness, contrasts, humor and the feeling of festival! Today the docks are said to have the greatest number of outdoor seats in Norway". Taken by RennyBA

Masked Tree

"An unexpected teaching whilst walking through ChinaTown, downtown Toronto, on the ephemeral nature of the masks that we don to the outside world. We must stay true to our roots of Divinity in Mother Earth regardless of whether the whimsical world views us with horns or not!". Taken by SachaMassaGonna

The Trumpet Sounds

"The steeple of St. Mary's Basilica, Old Town in Krakow, Poland. St. Mary's Basilica is situated at the end of the Royal Route. In the ancient times on the loft of church's main tower was positioned a trumpeter that alarmed people about enemy attacks. During the Tatars' invasion in the 13th century the trumpeter had alarmed citizens against the attack and was killed by an enemy arrow. So nowadays every hour in memory of his death the trumpet call is sounded in four parts of the world". Taken by Mary

Rosia Montana - Fool's Gold?

"I am a journalist outraged by what is happening to a beautiful corner of my country. The photo was taken on May 1st of this year in the oldest village in Romania, called Rosia Montana. The village is now the field battle of two sides: a Canadian based company (Gabriel Resources) that wants to tear four mountains into holes to get the gold out of them... and ecologists and other NGO members who do not want the beautiful mountains, the cultural and historical heritage to be destroyed".
